Shenk's Homestead Sour Mash Whiskey 2025 (70cl, 45.6%)

This is the 2025 edition of Shenk's Homestead, a Kentucky sour mash whiskey in the Michter's Legacy Series with a marked share of rye. It is bottled at 45.6% ABV in a 70cl bottle, without chill-filtering or added colour. In the sour mash method, part of the mash from the previous distillation, known as the setback, goes into the next batch. Some of the fully matured whiskey was then finished in toasted, uncharred French oak from the Vosges, which had been air-dried and seasoned for 24 months. The finish brings out the rye spice alongside dried fruit, burnt sugar and toffee. The nose offers burnt sugar, spice and honey. The palate is full, sweet and toasty, with baking spices, dried fruit, toffee, nougat and more burnt sugar. The finish is soft, with lingering spice.
