Smoke Wagon 'Desert Jewel' Reserve is a 10-year-old bourbon from Nevada H&C Distilling Co. in Las Vegas, bottled at 52% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It takes its name from turquoise, Nevada's state gem.
It was drawn from 35 barrels aged on the fourth floor of the warehouse, the hottest section, where the desert's temperature swings concentrate the flavour. The barrels were never rotated and rested on their sides throughout. The bourbon marries two mash bills, one corn-forward and one rye-heavy, for a high-rye style.
The nose offers pecan pralines, buttercream, figs, raisins and dates, with orange peel, cinnamon and vanilla. The palate is thick and coating, with stone fruit, candied pecan and cherry syrup. The finish is long and velvety.
