Smokehead 15 Years is a limited 15-year-old version of the strongly smoky Islay single malt, made by Ian MacLeod Distillers, a family company that dates back to 1933. It is bottled at 43% without chill filtration.
The nose is dense, oily, phenolic and salty, with pickled lemon and mineral notes giving way to grilled fish and rosemary and thyme roasting on a campfire. Ash and salt open the palate, followed by soft sweet citrus, vanilla ice cream and barley, with earthy peat in the lead. The finish is long, with peat smoke, lemon peel and sea spray.
