Alioth is the fifth release in the Seven Stars series from Spirit of Hven, a family-owned distillery on the Swedish island of Hven. This moderately peated single malt is bottled at 45% ABV in a 50cl bottle.
It is made from lager malt, peated malt and chocolate malt, matured in American and French oak, then finished in 500-litre Spanish oak marrying casks that previously held dry Oloroso sherry.
The nose starts with a distant bonfire and coastal seaweed, followed by raisins, honeyed pipe tobacco, chocolate and dry citrus. The palate is powerful but balanced, with dry oak, Oloroso character and controlled peat smoke. The finish is medium-long and dry, with smoke, seasoned oak and dark chocolate.
