This is a Springbank single malt from Campbeltown, distilled in 1969 and bottled in 1997 by Signatory Vintage after 27 years in sherry casks. It comes in a dumpy bottle, at 51.8% ABV, in a 70cl size.
The nose starts austere, flinty, waxy and dry, then opens to ripe apples, pears, bananas and coconut. With water it turns to herbs, tea, mango, wood smoke and fresh hazelnuts. The palate is full of citrus, from lemon and tangerine to kumquat, with soft spices and a hint of liquorice. The finish is very long and firm, with dates, pepper and lemon.
