Starward – Muscat Cask (70cl, 48%)

Starward Muscat Cask is an Australian single malt matured entirely in former Muscat casks from Rutherglen in Victoria. It belongs to the Projects range. Starward filled both freshly emptied and charred barrels with its spirit, distilled in 2019, and vatted the whiskies together after four years. It was bottled in 2023 at 48%. The freshly emptied casks contribute fragrant fruit, while the charred ones bring out caramelised Muscat notes and toasted oak. The nose is sweet and lively, with burnt almonds, dates, cinnamon buns and lychee. The palate is balanced and full, with toasted almonds, raisins and Christmas spice. The medium-length finish recalls dried fruit, cinnamon and light fruit, with toasted oak.
