Stauning – Whisky Bastard

Bastard is a double-distilled rye whisky from the Danish distillery Stauning, part of its Research Series. The grain is grown in West Jutland, malted on the distillery floor and distilled over open fire. The rye spent three years in new, charred American oak, then six months in former mezcal casks from Oro de Oaxaca in Mexico. The label artwork is by the tattoo artist Thit Hansgaard. The nose brings lemon and sweet tobacco with mild smoke and wild flowers. The palate is soft and sweet, with spice and burnt caramel, and the finish is gentle with an exotic note.
