First-fill sherry butt
This Strathisla from the Gordon & MacPhail Private Collection matured in a first-fill sherry butt. The spirit was distilled on 19 December 1953 and bottled in January 2019, after 65 years, at 43.5%. The single cask gave 143 bottles. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colouring. The long sherry maturation shows in the mahogany colour and in a profile of dried fruit, dark berries, spice and oak. The nose opens with dried fruit and sherry, furniture polish, candied fruit and clear orange oil, then clove, nutmeg and allspice leading to a fine touch of menthol. The palate starts with ripe oak, then blackberries, currants and cranberries, with crystallised ginger, dark chocolate and aniseed. The finish balances fruit and oak, with nutty tones and a cigar box note.

About Glenbotal

The idea of Glenbotal came to us naturally: as whisky lovers, we were always on the lookout for new experiences in the whisky world. That’s why we created Glenbotal and became our very own first customers. We buy unique and hard to find spirits from ballots and private collections. Then, we share them with a small circle of friends and people who can appreciate a good dram.
