Super Nikka (70cl, 43%)

Super Nikka is a blended Japanese whisky from Nikka, first released in 1962 and bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It combines malt and grain whiskies matured in a range of casks, including sherry and bourbon. Masataka Taketsuru, founder of Nikka Whisky, created it as a tribute to his wife, Rita. The style is gently peaty, with vanilla and sherry and a smooth, mellow texture. The nose is sweet malt with smoke and dried fruit. The palate shows ripe pear, caramel and a touch of spice, with understated peat. The finish is long and warm, with a little smoke and a trace of vanilla and oak.
