The Dalmore Port Wood Reserve (46.5%)

This is a Highland single malt from Dalmore, bottled at 46.5% ABV. It is matured in two kinds of cask: first-fill American white oak that previously held Kentucky bourbon, and aged tawny port pipes. The whisky is divided between the two cask types for a period, then brought back together. The port pipes come from the Portuguese house W.&J. Graham's. The strength was set at 46.5% to balance the wine notes with the Dalmore character. The nose has sweet red berries, Seville oranges and soft fruit with a little caramel pudding. On the palate come nectarines and creamy caramel, with roasted chestnuts and Java coffee. The finish brings rich plums, sultanas, blood oranges and macerated cherries.
