The Gospel – Straight Rye Whiskey (70cl, 45%)

The Gospel Straight Rye is an Australian rye whiskey made entirely from unmalted rye grown on a single farm in the Murray Mallee region of South Australia. It is distilled twice, then matured for two to three years in new American oak casks in Melbourne. The casks are heavily toasted and lightly charred. It is bottled at 45% in a 70cl bottle, without chill-filtration or added colour. The distillery is in Brunswick, Melbourne, and works only with Australian unmalted rye. The nose recalls dark rye bread with butter, along with fine spice and a hint of light toffee. On the palate caramel and vanilla meet allspice, clove and pepper, with green apple alongside. The finish brings dried red fruit and crème caramel with woody spice.
