The Ileach Cask Strength is a smoky single malt from Islay, bottled at cask strength. It comes from a single distillery, and its name has long been a puzzle among whisky drinkers. Ileach is the Gaelic word for a person from Islay.
The cask strength bottling was awarded a gold medal at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in 1999.
In the glass it is golden. The nose is direct and powerful, with peat. The palate is very oily, with plenty of peat smoke, a touch of barley and a bitter-sweet edge. The finish is long and warm, lightly spicy and surprisingly sweet.
