The Kujira 10 Year Old Bourbon Barrel is a Ryukyu single grain whisky from Okinawa, Japan, made at the Masahiro Distillery. It is distilled from Indica rice and fermented with Okinawa's black koji. It is bottled at 43% ABV.
It matured for over 10 years in ex-bourbon barrels, in a warm, humid climate that the distillery credits with speeding maturation. The colour is deep amber.
The nose is fresh and sweet, with nectar, honey, brown sugar, flowers, cinnamon and cloves. The palate is buttery, with soft caramel sauce, baked bread, liquorice, green raisins and dates. The finish is of good length, with slight bitterness and lingering spice.
