The Matsui Mizunara Cask is a Japanese single malt from the Kurayoshi Distillery, carrying no age statement and bottled at 48% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It was aged in Japanese Mizunara oak and blended down with water from Mt. Daisen.
The label shows Katsushika Hokusai's Thirty Six Views of Mount Fuji, with red-crowned cranes, a bird native to Japan.
The nose is fresh and floral, followed by sweet vanilla, baking spice and a touch of creamy coconut. On the palate it is velvety, with rich oak, cinnamon, ginger and a little chilli heat against toffee sweetness. The finish brings silky caramel, floral oak, tobacco and vanilla pod.
