Trail's End 8 Year Apple Brandy Finish is a bourbon aged for eight years in charred new American oak barrels. The distillers at Clear Creek then finish it in their own apple brandy barrels, a step that links the Trail's End brand with theirs. Oak is the only variable changed in this expression, which moves from staves to casks to specialty finishes.
The nose is warm and sweet, with pie crust, maraschino cherries, flat cola and a hint of late summer rain on dry ground. The palate is oaky and herbal, like barley tea sweetened with manuka honey, with pipe tobacco and red ale in the middle. It closes with a faint bitterness from the barrel's fading char.
