Virginia Highland Whisky Cider Cask is a malt whisky from Virginia Distillery Company in Lovingston, Virginia. It blends American single malt distilled on site with aged Scotch malt whisky, both made from 100% malted barley.
The whisky is finished in casks sourced mainly from Virginia cideries, including Potter's Craft Cider and Buskey Cider, for between 8 and 20 months. This adds orchard-fruit character and a bright acidity that oak alone would not give.
The nose is green apple and ripe pear with vanilla, toasted pecan and a faint floral note. The palate is malty and slightly oily, with baked apple, cinnamon, honeycomb and butterscotch, then lemon peel and clementine. The finish is long and oak-driven, with baked apple fading into soft vanilla and grain.
