Virginia Distillery Company Courage & Conviction is an American single malt, bottled at 46% ABV in a 75cl bottle. It is distilled from 100% malted barley in Lovingston, Virginia, in two Scottish-made copper pot stills.
The whisky is a marriage of three cask types: 50% Kentucky bourbon barrels, 25% Spanish sherry casks and 25% cuvée casks. The cuvée casks are former European red wine barrels that have been shaved, toasted and re-charred.
The nose offers toffee, raw honey, raisins and candied walnuts. Cherry, plum and blueberry lead the palate, followed by caramel, butterscotch and cocoa. The finish is medium to long, moving from sweetness to toasted oak and barrel spice.
