Westie Sponge Edition No.1 Nc'Nean 5 Year Old (55%)

Westie Sponge Edition No.1 is a Nc'Nean single malt distilled in 2018 and bottled at 5 years old at 55% ABV. It is the first release in Westie Sponge, a side-series of Whisky Sponge celebrating the single malts of the West Highlands and Islands. Two first fill hogsheads were filled with spirit made from different yeast recipes. The whisky was combined and returned to the same two casks, and half of it, 340 bottles, was bottled at a slightly reduced strength. It is described as a surprisingly mature, lusciously fruity young whisky, with richness from the casks and a vivid, detailed fruit character from the distillate.
