This WhistlePig is a 12 year old rye finished in Italian Amarone barrels from Dal Forno Romano, which were the favourite of the late master distiller Dave Pickerell. Ten barrels were filled with rye distilled on 1st June 2004, and the whiskey was bottled in 2021 after a finishing period in the Amarone casks.
The nose brings rye spice, menthol and nutmeg, with dried orange peel, boiled rhubarb and custard and cocoa nibs. The palate is creamy, with rich berry fruits, orange peel and cinnamon, then vanilla ice cream, dark chocolate and cigar box depth. The finish turns to crème brûlée with citrus zest.
