WhistlePig PiggyBack Alfa Romeo F1 Edition is a limited-edition 6-year-old rye whiskey from a 100% rye mashbill, bottled at 48.385% in a 75cl bottle. It was inspired by Zhou Guanyu, the first Chinese Formula 1 driver.
Trial barrels were tested in the Alfa Romeo F1 team's wind tunnel in Switzerland. Select barrels were then put through varying levels of G-Force at the WhistlePig farm in Shoreham, Vermont, and the whiskey was finished with lychee and oolong tea.
The nose is dense lychee with honey, pineapple, grapefruit, mint and black tea. The palate is sweet lychee and mango, then bitter black tea, roasted oak, clove and rye spice. The finish is soft and fruity, with a faint herbal dryness.
