WhistlePig Double Double 18 Year Old is a straight rye whiskey, here in its 5th Edition, aged 18 years and bottled at 46% ABV (92 proof). The mash bill is 79% rye, 15% malted rye and 6% malted barley, a nod to the old practice of malting a portion of the rye harvest.
This edition is aged in a double barrel process, in American oak and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks.
The nose is sweet and aromatic, with toasted oak, berries and nutmeg. The palate is elegant and spicy, mildly fruity and floral, with vanilla and oak emerging over time. The finish is long, clean and spicy.
