WhistlePig Old World 12 Year is a straight rye whiskey from Shoreham, Vermont, bottled at 43% in a 750ml bottle. The rye, made from 95% rye and 5% malted barley, is aged for 12 years in new American oak.
It is then divided into three parts and finished separately in Madeira (63%), Sauternes (30%) and Port (7%) wine casks before being blended back together. It won a Double Gold Medal at the 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
The nose has caramel, vanilla, ripe peach and apricot. The palate is soft, with maple sugar and vanilla fudge before the rye spice, then plums, raisins, dates and honey. The finish is medium to long, with dark chocolate and winter fruit.
