The Beholden is a 21 year old North American single malt from WhistlePig, bottled at 92 proof (46% ABV) as a single barrel release.
The whiskey spent 21 years in American oak before a finish in WhistlePig Rye barrels. It is described as the first super-aged North American single malt, matured more than twice as long as any other on the continent. The Spring 2023 release drew on 18 barrels.
The oak is said to bring rich maple and dried fruit to a bready, nutty base, while the rye barrels add savoury spice and subtle smoky notes.
