The Black Prince is the fourth edition of WhistlePig's Boss Hog series, a 14 year old straight rye bottled in 2017 at 59.6% (119.2 proof) in a 750ml bottle. This bottle comes from Barrel No. 1, a single barrel at barrel strength and non-chill-filtered.
The rye was distilled at MGP in Indiana and aged in new American oak before a finish in Armagnac casks from France, the first rye whiskey to be finished this way. The name honours Edward of Woodstock, the Black Prince. It won Best in Show Whiskey at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
The nose offers apricot, fig, plum and toasted almond over caramelised brown sugar and molasses.
