The Golden Pharaoh is the thirteenth edition of WhistlePig's annual Boss Hog series, a single barrel straight rye whiskey bottled at barrel strength, 51.3% ABV, in a 75cl bottle.
The rye was matured in new American oak, then finished in barrels seasoned with Egyptian black honey and tiger nut, two ingredients with roots in Ancient Egypt. The bottle is topped with a pewter figure modelled on King Tut.
It opens with brown sugar and toasted almond, moving to deep molasses sweetness and baking spice, with a long, unhurried finish.
