Woodford Reserve Barrel Strength Rye is the distillery's first barrel strength rye. It is a non-chill-filtered Kentucky straight rye, bottled at 62.55% ABV in a 700ml bottle with no water added.
It blends two distillates made to the same mashbill of 53% rye, 33% corn and 14% malted barley. One was distilled in copper pot stills at Versailles, the other in a column still at Brown-Forman's Shively site in Louisville.
The nose is led by black pepper, cinnamon bark and clove, with orange peel, mint, honey and toasted oak. The palate moves from cracked pepper to toffee, dark chocolate and dried fruit. The finish is long and dry, with charred oak and dark cocoa.
