This is the 2021 release of Woodford Reserve Double Double Oaked, a Kentucky straight bourbon in a 375ml bottle at 45.2% ABV. It belongs to the Distillery Series.
The bourbon is first aged in new charred oak, then given a second maturation in heavily toasted new oak, and finally a further finishing stage in toasted oak. That makes three separate periods in wood.
The nose brings deep toasted oak, caramel, vanilla and dark fruit. On the palate there is concentrated caramel, vanilla cream, honey, dark chocolate and baking spice, with firm toasted oak tannin. The finish is long, with dry spicy oak, dark chocolate and lingering caramel.
