Yamazaki – 18 Year Old Mizunara Japanese Oak Cask (2025 Release)

Yamazaki 18 Year Old Mizunara is a Japanese whisky from the 2025 release, part of the Mizunara Series. It was matured exclusively in Mizunara oak for 18 years. Mizunara has been part of Yamazaki since the 1940s, when American oak became scarce after the war. The wood is difficult to work, as a usable cask needs a tree more than 200 years old and over 70cm in diameter. It brings notes of sandalwood, agarwood and oriental spice. On the nose it is typically described as dark cherry, ripe peach, cinnamon and nutmeg, with spiced orange, apricot and Japanese incense on the palate. The finish is long, with clove, sandalwood and dried coconut.
