Yamazakura Asaka Peated Single Malt is a Japanese single malt from the Asaka distillery in Kōriyama, Fukushima, founded in 2016. Peated malted barley was brought in from Scotland, then fermented and distilled in Japan.
The spirit was distilled on 18 July 2019 and matured for four years in oak cask 19152. It was bottled at cask strength, 63.5%, on 28 July 2023, in a 70cl bottle.
The nose is elegantly smoky, with lemon and a little honey. The palate is full and rich, balancing peat smoke and sweetness, with honey, vanilla, citrus, apple and tropical fruit. The finish is long and warming, with smoke, black pepper and ginger.
