This is the 2024 Edition of Yamazakura Asaka, a single malt from the Asaka distillery of Sasanokawa Shuzo. It was launched in May 2024 and bottled at 50% in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky is non-peated and aged in bourbon barrels, which is the characteristic Asaka style. Its aroma is floral and refreshing, with a clean sweetness.
On the nose it shows pongashi, honeyed lemon and citrus. The palate brings dried plum, lime, plum and cider. The finish recalls sake, with lingering sweetness and a very subtle hint of smoke as the acidity fades.
