This is a Kentucky straight bourbon from the Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown, finished in port wine casks. It starts from the distillery's high-rye bourbon, which has a bold, spicy character, and adds a period in casks that previously held port.
The port finish brings dried fruit, dark cherry and a natural sweetness alongside the grain spice.
The nose is rich vanilla and caramel with delicate dried fruit and port sweetness. On the palate the rye spice meets the fruit and sweetness of the port casks. The finish is long, with the port lingering beside the bourbon's warmth.
