Amrut – 2015 Single Cask #3897 Australian Exclusive Ex-Oloroso Sherry Butt 7 Year Old Single Malt (70cl, 60%)

This is a single cask Amrut single malt from India, aged 7 years in an ex-Oloroso sherry butt. The cask was filled in July 2015 and the whisky was bottled in December 2022 at 60% ABV, in a 70cl bottle. It is non-chill filtered, and 216 bottles were made exclusively for Australia. To reduce it to strength, water was added one drop at a time over three days. The sediment settled and the whisky was siphoned off, keeping the fats and oils that filtration would remove. The nose has fig and raisin, then roasted nuts and cocoa. The palate is creamy malt and Oloroso with mixed peel, orange chocolate, leather, walnut cake and allspice, and a biscuity, saline edge. The sherry returns in a longer aftertaste.
