Amrut – Fusion (50%)

Amrut Fusion is an Indian whisky made from Indian barley malt and malt peated with Scottish peat. Each malt is distilled separately, then the two are combined in ex-bourbon casks and new charred oak casks. It is bottled at 50% ABV and has a golden caramel and honey colour. The nose opens sweet, with vanilla icing, cane sugar and butterscotch, then lemon and tropical fruit, with gentle peat smoke behind. The palate starts with smoky aniseed and moves through black coffee, buttered and sugared wheat toast, candied malt and creamy orange, over a firm but not overwhelming peaty base. The finish is long and slightly dry.
