Amrut – Intermediate Sherry Indian Single Malt (70cl, 57.1%)

Amrut Intermediate Sherry is a single malt from Bangalore in India, bottled at cask strength, 57.1%, in a 70cl bottle. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour. The name refers to where the sherry comes in. The whisky matures first in ex-bourbon casks, then moves into sherry casks, and finally goes back into ex-bourbon, so the sherry stage sits between the two. On the nose there is port-like fruit, candied cherries, vanilla and a hint of strawberry jam. Cinnamon and nutmeg give the palate a warm, spicy base, with orange peel and light aniseed. The finish is long and dry with pronounced oak, and the sherry influence shows more as it fades.
