Amrut – Master Distiller's Reserve Refill PX Sherry Butt (70cl, 50%)

A single cask Indian single malt from Amrut, the first release in an annual series of casks chosen by the distillery's master distiller. It is bottled at 50% ABV in a 70cl bottle, and is one of 500 bottles. The whisky was made from peated Scottish barley. It was filled in January 2014, aged first in ex-bourbon casks and then in a refill Pedro Ximenez sherry butt, and bottled in October 2022. It is the first peated Amrut aged in a sherry cask. The nose offers dried fruits, figs and plums over caramel, chocolate and tobacco, with sweet melon and phenols behind. The palate is syrupy, with honey, lemon, tobacco and a touch of spice. The finish is sweet and dry, with phenols.
