Archie Rose – Single Malt Whisky (70cl, 46%)

This is an Australian single malt from Archie Rose, bottled at 46% ABV in a 70cl bottle. Its mash bill uses six malts, where most whiskies use one or two. It was matured mainly in 100, 200 and 300-litre Australian apera (sherry) casks, alongside ex-bourbon casks and casks that previously held Archie Rose's own rye. Those ex-rye casks were air-dried for 36 months and coopered with a balance of char and toast. The nose shows fresh herbs, shortbread, raisins, toffee and dark chocolate. The palate is rich, with sticky date pudding and amaretto, ending on a note of espresso.
