Ardbeg – Corryvreckan (70cl)

Ardbeg Corryvreckan is an Islay single malt in a 70cl bottle, named after the whirlpool off the coast of Jura. It is matured in ex-bourbon barrels and virgin French oak casks, which add a peppery spice and a chewy texture to the distillery's peaty character. The nose opens with intense peat smoke, tar, creosote and sea salt, with dark chocolate, blackcurrant and a hint of menthol beneath. On the palate there is cracked black pepper, chilli oil, espresso, liquorice and ripe black fruit, with peat smoke throughout. The finish is very long, with smoky bacon, aniseed and a dry, tannic grip from the French oak.
