Ardbeg Heavy Vapours Committee Release is a limited-edition Islay single malt Scotch, bottled at 50.2% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It is the higher-proof version made for Ardbeg Committee members ahead of the standard bottling.
It was distilled without the purifier that normally sits on the lyne arm of Ardbeg's spirit still, which lets heavier compounds pass into the spirit. It matured in ex-bourbon casks and is non-chill filtered with no added colour.
The nose is earthy, with dark chocolate, peppermint, coal smoke, cinnamon and grilled pineapple. The palate mixes ashy coal dust, burnt caramel, cardamom and coffee, and the long finish keeps dark chocolate, coal and eucalyptus.
Tasting Notes
Pungent earthiness, dark chocolate, peppermint, coal smoke, cinnamon, cloves, grilled pineapple and watermelon rind
Bittersweet ashy coal dust and burnt caramel, cardamom, peppermint, coffee grits, dark chocolate, eucalyptus, apricot, sweet apple and citrus
Long and bold, with dark chocolate, coal and eucalyptus in a slow smoky fade
