Ardbeg Spectacular is an Islay single malt Scotch whisky bottled at 46% ABV in a 75cl bottle, without chill filtration and with natural colour. It is the first Ardbeg to be matured in port wine casks.
It is a vatting of malts aged between 9 and 13 years. Roughly a third was matured in ex-bourbon barrels and the other two thirds in port wine pipes.
The nose begins with lavender, vetiver and incense, then moves to damp peat, woodsmoke and creosote, with minty chocolate and salted caramel fudge beneath. On the palate come candied walnut, pear crumble, orange peel, leather and tar, with dark-fruit sweetness alongside the peat. The finish is very long, with smoke, salted caramel and charred oak.
