Benchmark Old No. 8 is a Kentucky straight bourbon made at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, in a 75cl bottle. It is a rye-recipe bourbon, and its name recalls the McAfee brothers, who surveyed a site just north of Frankfort in the late 1700s.
The nose offers caramel against a delicate stone-fruit backdrop. The palate is robust and sturdy, with fine leather, dry tobacco, a touch of oak and a hint of dried cherries. The finish is smooth and calming.
