Bowmore Surf is an Islay single malt in a 1 litre bottle, bottled at 40% ABV without an age statement. It was a long-running travel retail release, introduced in the 1990s and bottled until 2014.
It was made from first and second fill bourbon casks. This edition dates from the 1990s to early 2000s, when the label showed seagulls flying over Loch Indaal with the distillery behind.
The nose is young, with peat smoke, vanilla, lemon peel, seaweed and damp hay. The palate brings peat smoke, grapefruit, green apple, vanilla, caramel, sea salt and a hint of oak. The finish is medium long and warming, with peat smoke, sea salt, vanilla and liquorice.
