Broadbent Single Cask Malvasia M235 1997 Madeira (50cl, 19%)

Broadbent Single Cask Malvasia M235 1997 is a sweet Madeira in a 50cl bottle, made from Malvasia grown on the volcanic soils of Madeira. The grapes were picked by hand in September and destemmed, crushed and pressed. Fermentation used wild yeasts in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, and was stopped with neutral grape spirit to keep the sweetness. The wine then aged in an old 650 litre American oak cask using the traditional canteiro system, a natural oxidative process. The nose is spirity, musky and fungal, with a dry, woody character. The palate is rich, sweet and powerful, with high acidity and strong chestnut flavours, alongside black plum, fig and a saline edge. The finish is hot.
