Churchill's Vintage Port 2020 (75cl, 20%)

Churchill's Vintage Port 2020 is a declared vintage port from the Douro Valley in Portugal, bottled at 20% vol in a 75cl bottle. The fruit comes from old vines averaging over 50 years of age at Quinta da Gricha. The grapes are trodden in granite lagares and given a longer than usual fermentation, so less of the final alcohol comes from added grape brandy. This gives a drier, more structured style. The port then spent 24 months in large oak vats and carries 103 grams per litre of residual sugar. The nose is light and lifted, with aniseed, orange blossom, herbs and a thread of eucalyptus. The palate is medium-bodied, with ripe tannins and balanced acidity. The finish is long, with salted liquorice and herbal notes.
