Secrets of Smoke is a Compass Box blended malt built from peated Islay malts, in a 70cl bottle. It looks for the sweetness beneath the smoke.
Three parts make up the blend: Caol Ila matured in Palo Cortado sherry-seasoned butts, The Peat Monster, Compass Box's own assemblage of Islay malts, in refill red wine barrels, and Laphroaig in Marsala barriques.
Beyond the coastal smoke, the nose is honeyed, with toasted marshmallow and buttery pears. The palate is oily and spicy with pear, peach and melon, turning citrussy, and the finish is long, chocolatey and peaty.
