The Spice Tree is a vatted malt from Compass Box, made entirely from Highland malt whiskies: 60% Clynelish, 20% Dailuaine and 20% Teaninich. It is bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill-filtered and without colouring.
The first maturation is in a mix of first-fill and refill American oak casks. A second maturation of two years follows in heavily toasted French oak cask ends, whose strong toasting gives the whisky a pronounced flavour profile.
The nose is sweet with clove, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla, plus dried herbs and pepper. The palate is full, round and sweet, with fresh ginger, caramel and pepper, and the finish is long and very spicy.
