Dartigalongue 40 Year Old is a Bas-Armagnac from the house founded in 1838 in Nogaro, bottled at 42%. The spirit is single-distilled in a continuous Armagnac alambic and aged for about 40 years in 400-litre oak barrels.
It is then moved to glass demi-johns, where it rests without taking more from the oak. The blend uses Ugni Blanc, Baco 22A and Folle Blanche.
The nose shows sandalwood, old leather, caramelised apple, dried grapes and roasted nuts, with cocoa and orange zest emerging. The palate is dry and round, with peach, dried orchard fruit, tobacco leaf and rancio. The finish is very persistent, with warm spice, soft tannins and dried plum.
