This is the 2017 release of George T. Stagg, a Kentucky straight bourbon from Buffalo Trace in Frankfort. It forms part of the distillery's Antique Collection and is bottled at 64.35% ABV (128.7 proof), uncut and unfiltered.
The bourbon spent a minimum of 15 years in new charred American oak. Each yearly release reflects the conditions of its own ageing, so strength and character differ from one vintage to the next.
The nose brings toffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, fudge, nougat and molasses. On the palate come caramel and dark chocolate, then dates, tobacco, dark berries, spearmint and coffee. The finish is very long, with dark fruit, oak tannins and a warming spice.
