GlenAllachie – 10 Year Old Spanish Virgin Oak (48%)

This is a 10 year old GlenAllachie single malt, Batch 3 of the Virgin Oak Series, bottled at 48% ABV. It is non-chill filtered and of natural colour. It is matured in hogsheads made from Spanish oak grown in the Cantabrian Mountains of Galicia and Asturias. The wood was air-dried for about 18 months, then toasted and charred to a medium level. The secondary maturation in these virgin casks gives the whisky a mahogany colour. The nose is orchard fruits, baking spices and sticky toffee pudding with glazed cherries. On the palate come chocolate, coffee and heather honey, then pepper, ginger and molasses, with banana and sultanas on the finish.
