GlenAllachie – 12 Year Old Moscatel Wood Finish (70cl, 48%)

This is a 12 year old Speyside single malt from GlenAllachie's Wood Finish range, bottled at 48% in a 70cl bottle. It spent more than eight years in ex-bourbon American oak barrels, then over three and a half years in Portuguese Moscatel barriques. It is non-chill-filtered, has no added colouring and is golden bronze in colour. It was released in August 2023 as the Europe edition of the Regional Exclusive series. Billy Walker selected the casks and followed their maturation before the whiskies were married. Orange blossom, heather honey and citrus mark the nose, with grapefruit, buttery caramel and toffee. The palate starts with dark chocolate, grape must and plum jam, then orchard fruit, cinnamon and honeycomb. Ginger and buttery caramel linger in the finish.
