GlenAllachie – 17 Year Old 2009/2024 Mizunara & Oloroso Finish (50%)

This is a GlenAllachie 17 Year Old, a Speyside single malt distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2024 at 50% ABV. It was matured in Mizunara oak casks together with Oloroso sherry puncheons and hogsheads, and forms part of the Masters of Wood series. It is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour. Mizunara is a Japanese oak, used less often for maturation because of its cost and the difficulty of making casks from it. The Oloroso casks come from Andalusia. The nose is heather honey, dried orange peel and candied ginger, with cocoa, roasted tobacco leaf and fresh vanilla pod. On the palate come baking spices, dried blood orange and grilled honeycomb, then cocoa, poached cinnamon apples, fig syrup, pecans and demerara sugar.
